Attachmate Extends Attachmate MobileNow Platform

13 August 2013

Attachmate Corporation today announced the expansion of its Attachmate MobileNow strategy and solutions platform with the latest update to its market-leading Attachmate Reflection software. With this release, Reflection introduces new features designed to optimize the end-user experience in a virtualized environment when accessing legacy applications from mobile devices.

Attachmate MobileNow optimizes the delivery of corporate data on the mobile platform while providing tools for encrypting data, controlling access, and monitoring for misuse. In January, the company announced its first set of Attachmate MobileNow solutions based on HTML5 and other Web technologies. With new support for application virtualization, Attachmate MobileNow provides an unmatched set of solutions for mobile-enablement of legacy applications.

Many organizations use virtualization technologies like Citrix XenApp® to provide users with simplified and secure access to their business applications from PCs. Now, these organizations are looking to XenApp to deliver the same applications to tablets and smartphones.

To address this need, Attachmate and Citrix developed a new feature for Reflection called TouchUx which optimizes legacy application access from mobile devices via the Citrix XenApp platform.

“The beauty of this approach is that it requires little to no modification of existing applications,” said Tom Bice, vice president of marketing and product management at Attachmate. “Our enterprise customers have hundreds, even thousands of applications and not having to rewrite them translates into huge time and cost savings. Users get truly productive much faster.”

TouchUx bridges the usability gap between the old and the new, and enhances the end-user experience when accessing legacy host applications from any mobile device running in a Citrix XenApp environment. TouchUx provides full-featured terminal emulation while optimizing screens for smartphone and tablet form-factors and enabling easier data entry with touch keyboards. With TouchUx, administrators can also leverage Citrix XenApp to centrally manage Reflection.

“Customers will benefit from Attachmate’s ability to leverage XenApp to deliver an optimized mobile experience with legacy host applications,” said Greg Fox, director, Citrix Ready partner program at Citrix. “Most enterprises have XenApp in place today and can therefore quickly implement an Attachmate Reflection solution that delivers an optimal legacy application user experience to any device, anywhere.”

In addition, TouchUx is designed to work with any mobile device that runs the Citrix Receiver™ universal software client for any platform, including iOS, Android and Windows 8.

Reflection also integrates other capabilities including SmartUx, which provides developer tools for adding modern user interface elements to IBM host applications. Once added, the updated user experience maximizes end-user productivity, reduces mistakes, and decreases training requirements.
