Micro Focus Announces COBOL Developer Day Events To Meet Enterprise Demand

COBOL Developer community events in Toronto, New York, Houston and DC focus on enterprise COBOL application modernization

9 October 2014

Micro Focus (LSE: MCRO.L) announced a series of Developer Days across North America designed to showcase the critical role that COBOL systems play within the enterprise, and how organizations can harness their existing mainframe, Windows, Unix and Linux-based COBOL business systems to support new technologies including mobile, cloud, .NET and JVM.

Over 70% of today's business transaction processing systems rely on COBOL technology, and the average American interacts with COBOL (i.e. - ATM transactions) 13 times a day. As the leading provider of enterprise application modernization, testing and management solutions, Micro Focus introduced the Developer Day series to demonstrate to enterprise application developers how to quickly and easily modernize their COBOL systems using the very latest in COBOL development technology.

Developer Day attendees will gain greater insight into the latest tools and technologies designed to support and enhance existing COBOL applications for the Mainframe and distributed operating environments, as well as the skills needed to take today's COBOL applications into tomorrow. Attending developers will:

  • Experience technical demonstrations of the Micro Focus development technology;
  • Learn how to accelerate time to delivery on both mainframe and distributed platforms, enabling greater focus on new innovation;
  • Understand how to leverage modern COBOL development tools to both maximize existing development resources and attract the next generation of developer talent.
  • Hear real-world testimonials from Micro Focus' partner and customer community.

"Enterprise COBOL remains the lifeblood of organizations worldwide, which is why the delegates at our Micro Focus Developer Days series reads like a who's who of leading global banks, insurance companies, retail firms, healthcare and government agencies and other major verticals," said Kristin Oelke, Head of North America Marketing, Micro Focus. "Any organization modernizing existing COBOL applications or seeking to extend these applications to the Cloud and mobile environments cannot afford to miss our upcoming Developer Day events."
